Aberdeen City is one of those gems that no one seems to know about. They have a great sound and a lot of talent, as well as some clever lyrics as well. But they suffer from a lack of exposure. IMO, they're good enough to go mainstream but they need help in getting there.

Nonetheless, I own both of their albums. I've gotta say I like both of them for different reasons. I've written a review on their "Freezing Atlantic" album so I figured I'd focus on this one.

Now, to put it lightly, this album is emotional. It gives me the oddest sort of feeling. Ever listen to music which seems to move you into a mindset - it seeems to activate a certain part of you which only a specific sound can do? Perhaps it takes you to a hidden place? It's hard to describe. The music is peaceful, slow and yet disturbing at the same time. Almost like lasting wounds, which have healed but still leave a scar, gone but not forgotten. That's about the only way I can characterize the overall sound. For some people, they won't like it - because it isn't high energy or extermely 'positive' sounding music. It's more serious and mellow, which is more of my style.

If you want to know specifically what I'm getting at, sample "Naysayer", the final track on this album, and you'll see what I mean.

It moves me...it seems to strike a certain chord of emotion, the chord which reminds you of the hurt you've experienced in life, and the fact that while time heals, it doesn't ever remove the memory of the evil you've witnessed. That's how this album speaks to me. Perhaps "final bout" best sums this up. And Aberdeen City seems to take this reality head on - and doesn't hold back the emotion in the process. For that reason alone, this album is unique and special to me, because they do more than scratch the surface or produce shallow, 'happy' music. It'll take you places.
