The main features on this interesting CD are the two Parts of an early '60s interview with Elvis. For most fans, a big drawing card here is the source of that famous quote about the constant subject about Elvis' *serious* movie plans, probably first referenced in book form back in 1971, "Elvis", by Jerry Hopkins; then, in 1980 and 1981, excerpted on RCA releases, first edited as a monologue, then with a substitute interviewer.
The original interviewer was with Parade Magazine, mostly off-mike, on apparently on the Hollywood or Seattle set of the '62 flick, "It Happened At The World's Fair".
A very long interview and bwith very good sound - seems that Elvis held the mike in his hand as the tape recorder ran. For those fans who just love the sound of Presley's voice...this is a dream come true.
In addition, he, in a very relaxed and candid way, talks about his beginnings, his triumphs and tragedies; his family; his Mother's passing; his interests, both in sports and intellectual pursuits.
Some listeners may be disturbed by hearing him enthusiastically discuss his interest in studying medicine. Sounds intriguing at the start but when placed against his well-documented excesses of the '70s, it can become depressing. Did he really think that he could *control* drug intake to have a better life? Is it possible his depression over his Mother's death, plus the incredible pressures as the biggrest star in the world cause him to search for means of comfort?
The Interviewer does try Elvis' patience at one point by asking him if the guys he keeps around have an additional role as "mentors"? But, interestingly enough, Elvis provides their first and last names!
Those who think that the "Monologue" covered the whole experience...check out this CD!
