I bought this album back in '93(on cassette!) after reading a small article on them in Spin. When I first listened to it, I didn't know what to make of it. My musical tastes were just beginning to branch out, so side projects were new to me(I'm pretty sure Stone doesn't see this as a "side project"). But with repeated listens, this album really grew on me. No, they don't sound like Pearl Jam. They sound like a band that will someday influence a ton of other bands--good bands--in the future, they're that good. At times, Stone's guitar sounds akin to a plane taking off. Shawn Smith's vocals might bring a tear to your eye. It's a rather emotionally downbeat album, but you'll still find it to be the perfect soundtrack for lyin' down in the park on the grass, looking up at the sky. Do yourself a favour and pick up this highly underrated album.
