In my opinion, no talent in hip-hop has been more overlooked than the legendary DJ Quik. For well over a decade, this rapper/producer/songwriter has been dropping slept-on classics with some of the very best production work I've ever heard. This greatest hits compilation features just a taste of some of Quik's very best work from the infamous "Sweet Black P--sy" to "Dollaz + Sense", his nasty diss record against fellow Compton rapper, M.C. Eiht. This album also features his talented roster of regulars such as 2nd II None, Suga Free, AMG, and his departed comrade, Mausberg.

While any longtime Quik fan may not quite agree with the choices here, there are some good picks. The feel-good summertime anthem, "Summer Breeze" is a nice selection as Quik remnices over a laid-back beat about the good ol' days. "You'z A Ganxta" is Quik's call for peace as he denounces his gangbanging ways in a moving tribute to Tupac and Biggie. Bangin' party cuts like "Tonite" and "Down, Down, Down" should certainly get some plays from anyone who like rap on a little bit of a funk tip.

If you've never felt compelled to pick up a DJ Quik album before, this might be a good place to start. Those who already own all of Quik's albums get two bonus never-before-heard tracks though that might not be enough of an incentive. I would have like to have heard a few rare remixes or B-sides on here such as the classic "Can't F--k With A N--ga" off the Menace II. Society soundtrack but hey, what are you gonna do?
