For me, this is one of the great jazz cds of all time. Always on the edge but never quite falling off it, this hard-driving, often melodic music captivates from beginning to end. (While there are are elements of free jazz and one song--only 6 of 68 minutes--does fit that category, it is reasonably structured music.) Each time I listen to it, I sub-consciously think that so-and-so (one of the four musicians) is the one who really makes this cd, but each time it is a different player. I never thought that a 36 minute song, about 1/2 of the cd, could hold me through but Fujii and her colleagues manage to do so. It would be great if the price came down from the stratosphere, but this music is likely to be listened to more than the last 3 cds combined that the typical jazz fan buys.
