julieta, god bless you!!! i've been listening to this album for the past year and it hasn't gotten old yet (or ever). For all the haters out there, while i am a big fan of aqui and bueninvento, i'm so happy she went pop, because i don't know what i'd do without her. I sing along to her songs everyday and her songs have the ability to pacify babies! I loved the post-modern pop sounds of Si and simple (neo)folkish ways of limon y Sal. BUT the hallmark of her talent is the ability to create unique yet catchy melodies coupled by meaningful yet simple lyrics.
Whereas the last two albums possessed true understatement and restrain, this unplugged really brought IT in the instrumentation. In the world of pop, It's definitely inventive(the use of tuba, musical saw, vibraphone, string, banjo), but always precise and never indulgent, so the results always come off comforting and never forced. Julieta's voice is always in command, and it showcases versatility. The musical guests are super well selected.
Her new songs show a more introspective Julieta, but also perhaps a more political one. El presente is about loving and being in the present moment, even though the world is on the brink of destruction. Algun Dia is about the promise of self-improvement and realization. Ilusion, julieta's best ballad perhaps, is the mourning of the loss of ilusions through life. And mira la vida is an ode to feminine power and a tribute to pregnant women. These songs has taken a more worldly outlook than her usual intimate, relationship-based songs.
Julieta's sound continues treading forward into new ground: norteno-ska, polka-banda, tribal drums. While never abandoning her songwriting and melodies. I've never enjoyed a julieta album as much as this one, but perhaps it's because i'm getting a little bit of everything here. Still, I can't wait for what she's doing next.
The CD is fantastic as any other CD of Julieta...
But I can not believe that you are punishing us for buying an original CD. It can not be copied on my Ipod!!! So... just to have it clear...
If I downloaded from the internet it is illegal.... but free and completely possible.
If I buy a pirate copy (for maybe US$ 1.00) I can even get more songs.. IT again will be illegal... But sooo easy.
And I go and spend my good money, I do it all on the legal way and all I can do is listen on my house????
This has to be another "republican" plan to conquer the world!!!!
