I was a skeptic when I saw Pat Monahan was releasing a solo album. Having been a bit disappointed with the two previous Train albums I second-guessed this recording. My first full listen yielded a feeling of "flop" and the disc remained in the back of my CD book for months. One evening on a drive home, in mid argument with my boyfriend, I decided to torture him with singer-song writer music (which he detests) for the entirety of our drive home. I pulled out Pat's CD. I detached myself from the argument and surrendered my thoughts to lyrics and a familiar soothing voice. I realized my rush to judgment was absolutely wrong.

Each track on "Last of Seven" is individual in tempo, subject, composition and expression, eliminating the album from cookie cutter solo attempts of fellow lead singers turned solo acts. Stand out tracks for me include the following: 'Her Eyes,' 'Two Ways to Say Goodbye,' 'Ohh My My,' 'Pirate on The Run.' Not Only will you get your introspective Train fix with the Last of Seven, but an edgier side of Pat Monahan not heard on previous albums. My hard rocker boyfriend admits to a guilty pleasure of lines he kindly compares me from Her Eyes:

She doesn't know the word 'impossible'
Don't care where I've been and doesn't care where we're goin' to.
She takes me as I am, and that ain't easy.
She's beautiful. So beautiful.
