I feel Zaki Ibrahim represents a soulful approach to music today, her lyrical talent is hidden with deep vibrant meaning. I am not one for comparisons, although her style of music represents that of Erykah Badu, Lauren Hill, The Roots and Common. These artists all embody an essence of conscious music steering away from the typical “commercial” hits. I actually attended a charity event where Zaki Ibrahim was part of a Public Service announcement (PSA) that was aired at the event for clean water facilities in Africa. Not only does Zaki stay away from traditional/materialistic lyrical content but you can actually tell the sincerity in her work. Her album Eclectica, specifically You Choose and Grow Again is amazing and I guarantee if anyone just takes the time to sit down and enjoy her mellow tone and take in her lyrics you will all feel where I am coming from. If you have not heard of Zaki you need to get informed!
