12 Unreleased Jimi Hendrix Tracks Available For The First Time Ever On 'Valleys Of Neptune'
January 20, 2010 - 1:00am
Available for the first time ever, Hendrix LLC and Sony Music Entertainment's Legacy Recordings is set to release 'Valleys Of Neptune', 12 fully realized studio recordings by Jimi Hendrix, on March 9, 2010!
In time for the launch of the monumental 2010 Jimi Hendrix Catalog Project, 'Valleys Of Neptune' contains more than 60 minutes of music that has never before been available on a Jimi Hendrix album. Centered around a turbulent four-month period in 1969, 'Valleys Of Neptune' is the final studio recordings of the 'Jimi Hendrix Experience.' This collection of songs was originally recorded and newly mixed for this historic release by Jimi Hendrix's longtime engineer Eddie Kramer, who first worked with the guitarist on 'Are You Experienced?' in 1967.
Janie Hendrix, CEO of Experience Hendrix LLC, the Hendrix family-owned company entrusted with preserving and protecting the legacy of Jimi Hendrix, noted, "My brother Jimi was at home in the studio. Valleys of Neptune offers deep insight into his mastery of the recording process and demonstrates the fact that he was as unparalleled a recording innovator as he was a guitarist. His brilliance shines through on every one of these precious tracks."
The 'Valleys Of Neptune' single has been one of the most highly sought after singles of Jimi Hendrix's recordings and will be released globally on February 2, 2010, almost 40 years after he finished recording the track at New York's Record Plant in May of 1970.
As part of the release of the 'Jimi Hendrix Catalog Project,' Legacy Recordings will also be releasing new deluxe CD/DVD editions of 'Are You Experienced?'
"No artist has ever transformed the pop music landscape as profoundly or as permanently as Jimi Hendrix," said Adam Block, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Legacy Recordings. "We are proud to be partnering with Experience Hendrix in releasing Valleys of Neptune, a treasure for Hendrix fans both new and experienced. It's an auspicious start in fulfilling a shared vision for the Jimi Hendrix catalog going forward."

Wyclef Jean Statement On Haiti Earthquake
January 14, 2010 - 1:00am
The following is a statement by Wyclef Jean on Tuesday's magnitude 7.0 earthquake outside Port-au-Prince, Haiti:
"Haiti today faced a natural disaster of unprecedented proportion, an earthquake unlike anything the country has ever experienced. The magnitude 7.0 earthquake - and several very strong aftershocks - struck only 10 miles from Port-au-Prince. I cannot stress enough what a human disaster this is, and idle hands will only make this tragedy worse. The over 2 million people in Port-au-Prince tonight face catastrophe alone. We must act now.
President Obama has already said that the U.S. stands 'ready to assist' the Haitian people. The U.S. Military is the only group trained and prepared to offer that assistance immediately. They must do so as soon as possible. The international community must also rise to the occasion and help the Haitian people in every way possible."
Many people have already reached out to see what they can do right now. We are asking those interested Canadians to please visit www.Yele.org and click on DONATE.
Slayer Cancels Tour Dates, Bassist Tom Araya Scheduled For Back Surgery
January 7, 2010 - 1:00am
Slayer's manager Rick Sales states, "Tom gave various medical treatments more than a fair shot," and adds "but they just haven't handled the problem, so he's biting the bullet and is scheduled for back surgery at the end of this month."
This difficult decision made by the band's bassist/vocalist Tom Araya means the cancellation of Slayer's immediate tour plans that include the American and Canadian Carnage Tour dates that were set to kick off on January 18, as well as the band's UK/European headline tour scheduled for March and April. Booking agents for both Slayer and Megadeth are already hard at work rescheduling the tour dates; tickets already purchased for these shows will be honored at the rescheduled dates.
The headbanging Araya, known for aggressively swinging his long mane of hair while performing, began experiencing back problems while on the band's Australian/New Zealand/Japanese tour last October. In spite of his rapidly increasing pain and discomfort, he carried on with the tour, but immediately upon returning home saw an orthopedic specialist who diagnosed a Cervical Radiculopathy. The rocker initially did not want to take the major surgery route, so the specialist recommended a series of minimally-invasive procedures. While those procedures have resulted in some improvement, Araya continues to deal with intermittent bouts of severe pain, numbness and muscle spasms. The surgical procedure that Araya will undergo, called an Anterior Cervical Discectomy with Fusion, is a relatively routine practice and the recovery rate is excellent.
Sales added, "As unfortunate as this is for so many people - the Megadeth and Testament camps, the concerts' promoters, and, of course, the fans - Tom's health is the number one priority, and this has to happen."

Since its release in early October, "TiK ToK" is the No. 1 airplay gainer at Top 40, beating out smash singles by Jay-Z and entering into the Top 5 on the Canadian and American Billboard Hot 100 chart. The track has sold more than 89,000 downloads in Canada (making it double platinum), and over 850,000 in the United States. So far in Canada it has reached #1 on the SoundScan Digital Song Chart, along with the iTunes Singles Chart where it stayed in the Top 5 for six weeks.
"Ke$ha is a natural superstar with tons of artistry and personality. She is unique and unlike any of the myriad of other female pop stars in the world. We're so excited that Rani Hancock was able to get her into the building here," says Barry Weiss, Chairman and CEO, RCA/JIVE Label Group.

Broken Bells Self-Titled Debut From James Mercer And Danger Mouse Out March 9
December 16, 2009 - 1:00am
James Mercer, frontman of the Shins, and Brian Burton a/k/a Danger Mouse have completed work on the first album by their new band Broken Bells.
The album features 10 songs co-written and performed by Mercer and Burton. Titles include "The High Road," "Vaporize," "Your Head Is On Fire," "The Ghost Inside," "Sailing to Nowhere," "Trap Doors," "Citizen," "The Mall and Misery" and more.
Broken Bells features Mercer on vocals, guitars and bass while Burton plays organ, drums, piano, synths and bass. The pair play all the instruments on the album with the exception of a full string section arranged by Daniele Luppi.
Each a long-time fan of the other's work, Burton and Mercer first met face-to-face backstage at the 2004 Roskilde Festival in Copenhagen. The pair immediately hit it off and kept in touch over the prevailing half decade and in May 2008 seized the opportunity to finally collaborate on original music together. Once in the studio, the musical floodgates opened, an intuitive ease and seemingly ego-less telepathy producing an astonishing flow of new material over the course of a year.
Mercer and Burton previously worked together on the track, "Insane Lullaby," a song appearing on the 'Dark Night of the Soul' multi-artist collaboration with David Lynch.
The self-titled album 'Broken Bells' will be released by Columbia Records March 9, 2010.
